Rancho Cordova Mayor Ken Cooley logged miles while on business in
San Antonio, Texas. Read more by clicking on "Bike Commute Stories" below at the right. Cooley's wife, Sydney, is a regular bicycle commuter, and had logged 92 miles during the first week in May.
 
Gerald Miller, Senior Environmental Planner for the California Department of Food and Agriculture snapped this photo of "the girls" before their bike ride on Tuesday evening.  From left, Rosie Miller, Gerald's wife and 17 year cancer warrior, Charlotte Carson and Sondra Wilson.  According to Gerald, all three have committed themselves to cycling this month because of the Million Mile Challenge. Rosie is the only person riding for the State Compensation Fund, of which she is very proud.
 
Steve Halton celebrated his 82nd birthday last week by logging miles for the Million Mile Challenge. On May 21st Steve will participate in his 36th
Davis Double Centry. According to his friend Larry Robinson, Steve doesn't have a computer and doesn't want one. So, Larry uses his computer to log Steve's miles, which to date, total 300.
 
Walt Gray, KCRA anchor, interviews Cabinet Secretary Terry Tamminen Monday as Bike Commute Week officially got underway at Arden Fair Mall. Tamminen challenged viewers to join the effort to log one million cycling miles in May. Cyclists wearing the official Bike Commute Week t-shirt were there to watch Tamminen's appearance and were on camera during the interview.

In spite of light showers Wednesday, approximately 400 cyclists attended the Davis BikeFest in Central Park. There was live music, lunch by Applebee's, and more than 25 fabulous door prizes donated by Davis bike shops.
 
Approximately 800 cyclists turned out for the Downtown BikeFest Rally held at the Cal EPA Building.  There were more than 40 exhibits for cyclists to visit, free lunch and live music.
 
More than 180 children and lots of adult volunteers participated in Roseville's Bikefest 2005 on Saturday at Spanger Elementary School.

Northrop bicycle commuters' spirits weren't dampened by the rain last
Thursday as they showed up for the Bikers Breakfast at McClellan Park.
